a parade of creativity

For Type A Control Freak Introverts, journaling can sometimes be seen as a highly structured productivity tool or an impractical, time consuming task. I absolutely love journaling and have a few different journals on the go but sometimes when I don’t feel like writing anything down I feel like it’s a chore (I do it anyway and then I feel better).

Why journaling works for Type A Control Freak Introverts

As we thrive on control, structure and efficiency, there is sometimes resistance to undertake journaling as a free flowing creative act…but here’s why it is perfect for us:

It provides clarity - writing helps untangle complex thoughts, making decision making easier. It balance structure with creativity - you can create a framework that allows freedom within boundaries. For example, I have a Reporters Notebook for free flowing journaling and I don’t restrict myself to a number of pages but I also have a fancier day/month/year planner style hardback planner which feels more luxurious (and has the ‘structure’ element I crave).

It offers a controlled space for self expression - unlike chaotic brainstorming, journaling lets you process emotions in a private and structured way.

It helps cultivate a softer more intentional life - by reflecting on small joys, desires and experiences, you can build a habit of noticing beauty in the every day.

The key is to create a journaling ritual that feels both structured and liberating. This gives the best of both worlds.
